Corporate Statement

Since 1991 Spectrum has been involved in the development of slumped glass panels for enhanced decorative effects. Amongst other terms, slumped glass is often known as textural glass, kiln-formed glass and cast glass. It is formed by controlled heating of float glass over a range of moulds. Different lighting methods and variations such as sandblasting (etching), mirroring (silvering) and colour-filling provide even greater dramatic effects.

Locally manufactured clear float glass is most often used but imported coloured float such as blue, green, grey, bronze or starphire can be used.

The versatility and durability of slumped glass has enabled it to replace somewhat out-of-date glass products such as plate glass and glass bricks. It can be used as an attractive alternative to other architectural materials such as timber, plastics and metal products.

There is an endless list of applications for slumped glass and the following are merely suggestions for its use:

· feature walls

· partitions

· frameless screens

· vanity tops

· shower screens

· mirrors

· bench tops

· splash-backs

· windows

· entry ways

· frameless doors

· signage

· menu boards

· decorative glazing

· balustrading

· table tops

· lighting

· trophies

The development of Sandblasting and glass-fusion techniques at Spectrum Art Spectrum Art Glass has provided slumped glass with many striking and attractive variations. These techniques, can be used separately in art-glass production where their decorative effects can be used to optimum advantage.
